dot1x - Configure Windows 10 for 802.1X

  1. Press the "Windows" button, type "services" and "Run as administrator" (on an older windows, might need to right mouse click and choose "Run as administrator").
  2. Scroll to the bottom and look for "Wired AutoConfig". If it is already setup to run "Automatically" and it is started, you can go to 4.
  3. Setup "Startup type" to be "Automatic", press "Start" to start the service, and press "OK".
  4. From "Settings", click on "Network & Internet".
  5. Click "Ethernet" on the left followed by "Change adapter options" on the right.
  6. Double-click the "Ethernet" icon (it may say Local Area Network) and then select "Properties".
  7. And here is the real setup. Click on folder "Authentication". Make sure all radio boxes are checked, especially "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication" one. Make sure the network authentication method is "Protected EAP (PEAP)". Click on "Settings".‚Äč
  8. Make sure "Verify server's identity by validating the certificate" in NOT checked. Make sure "Enable Fast Connect" is checked. Click on "Configure".
  9. Make sure "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)." is checked and click "OK".
  10. Select "OK" twice to save the changes and exit the EAP Properties. Then select "Additional Settings" and make sure "Specify authentication mode" is checked and set to "User authentication". Press "OK".
  11. That's the whole dot1x setup for Windows 10 (W10).
Thank you.
